Agnes MacGregor Salmond Movement Development Fund
Agnes Salmond (née Wood) 1911-2004 was involved in SCM as a student at Victoria University and Wellington Teachers’ College. After graduation she set up a kindergarten in Blackball on the West Coast and taught in Nuhaka in the Gisborne Region. From 1936-1940 Nesta (as she was known) was Headquarters Secretary of NZSCM.
Her years in the position were a period of stimulating engagement with SCMers and with the social and political issues of a particularly lively time in the history of the country. Nesta was dedicated to developing and strengthening the life of the movement. Her time at SCM headquarters ended when she married the Rev. Alex Salmond. The Bible that Nesta was given when she left, and the pages of signatures from her SCM colleagues were with her until her death in August 2004. Nesta maintained an active interest in SCM and SCMers throughout her life and remained committed to the ethos and ministry of SCM.
This endowment fund honours Nesta and her commitment to SCM and will provide funds for developing the life and work of the movement to which Nesta was so committed. The fund has been set up by the National Coordinating Group of SCM Aotearoa in consultation with Nesta’s family. The intention of the fund is to support SCM Aotearoa’s development by funding:
- work in local SCM branches
- outreach to new members
- strengthening networks
- publications
- conferences
- communications
- movement animation at local and national levels
- any activities that can be shown to develop the life and ministry of SCM Aotearoa
The fund is professionally managed by the SCMA Trust. Grants will be made only for movement development purposes at the direction of the National Coordinating Group of SCM Aotearoa.
