On the move! We're securing a new location on campus starting late June 2007. Watch this page! In the meantime, contact Jonathan for office information.
Welcome to The Hut!
Welcome to The Hut (that's the SCM hut or cabin, not
The Hutt!).
'The Hut' serves as an office for SCMA Victoria, as well as a chill-out and meeting space for SCMers -- and other like-minded groups.
If you're interested in using The Hut as a meeting place, please e-mail Jonathan (and Ariel, Michael, Fiona and Nikster) at
victoria@scm.org.nz.
The Hut is located between
Counselling (2 Wai-te-ata Road) and the
Library (Rankine Brown Building), by the
Student Union Building (National Bank end). Need a map? We've got one at the bottom of this page.
Where is the cabin?
There's many ways to find The Cabin.
- If you're already at Victoria University, go to Counselling (2 Wai-te-ata Road) behind the library. You'll see the cabin on your left hand side on the walkway.
- If you're not already at Vic Uni, come via Gates 3 or 5 on Kelburn Parade. If you're walking from The Terrace, try coming via Mount Street.
These are described in more detail with maps and photographs in the next page.
The Hut itself…
The
Rotary Club of Wellington presented the (then)
Victoria University College unit of SCM with The Hut in February 1955 'to commemorate the golden anniversary of Rotary International'.
In tribute to that fiftieth birthday of The Hut, and Rotary's centenary in New Zealand, we present you these photographs of today, February 2005.
Enjoy.
More photos: Rachel Barrowman's
Victoria University of Wellington 1899-1999: A History has
an undated photograph of
afternoon tea in the same SCM hut on
page 320. There is also mention of the 'SCM cabin' in an illustration on
page 193.

Sponsors
Thank you to the
Rotary Club of Wellington for the cabin, and also the
Counselling Service, Victoria University of Wellington, for the recent renovations and the
Gender and Women's Studies Programme, Victoria University of Wellington College of Education for some basics for the cabin. Hugs!
Disclaimer: for the avoidance of doubt, we (that is, SCM Victoria and our SCM cabin) aren’t associated with VUW Counselling Service and VUW Student Health – the cabin is a separate building that just happens to live next door to both (even if it does share the same street address as Counselling’s building, it’s still a separate building…).
