Discussion of the RDW Proposal at the AGMTeresa Windle of SCM Canterbury/Lincoln gave the history of this proposal as stemming from discussions about paying the Movement Animator to be more like a traveling Secretary part-time worker. The meeting agreed to break the discussion of the proposal into manageable chunks. SCM Otago announced that it will donate $1000 to seed the RDW proposal. 2000-24: The meeting agreed to accept this offer with much rejoicing.UA: good to employ one person in one place as an experiment, who can then feedback to other places. MP: We shouldn’t be too shy about asking people to fund beyond their geographical area. TW: excited, perhaps to ask for money in an appeal to SF’s linked with the history book mail-out. EP: the possibility of starting in Auckland given that it is a net importer of wealth! Quite soon after getting one going then all the others should DL: the money should come from a national fund because of regional funding availability differences. Workers should be allowed discretion in looking for new members as they have the local expertise. The positions should be self-directing SE: if all the funds (local and national) are pooled they can be resourced as necessary. The sooner things get started at Vic the better. WH: we should come from the point of view that there is a lot of resources and energy just waiting to give things back to the community. The name of SCM is an obstacle in our path and it can be tackled now. EM: it should be kept in mind that the purpose of these workers is to do new work, especially outside the universities, that’s why we want to pay to do something we can’t do ourselves. They shouldn’t take on de-facto responsibility for the units. RP: not too much time would be spent by the person raising money for themselves. EP: flexibility would be good to work on as sometimes the worker will want lots of hours at certain times. EM: Do we publicise it as a short-term project, or as an ongoing thing? TW: It is a scary job with difficult aspects. EP: are there people who can do it? Strong feeling that making the fund-raising part of the job could be fatal for the worker. Suggested people for a Working Group:
What will the working group do?
2000-25: The meeting resolved to accept the three recommendations |
