Re : Human Rights and Solidarity Workshop 2000
April 29, 2000

Dear friends,

Warm greetings from Hong Kong, WSCF-AP.

First of all, we appreciate your concern and support towards the regional programs.

I am writing this letter to invite you to the 'Human Rights and Solidarity Workshop 2000' (HRS 2000) which is one of the most important social awareness programs of the AP this year.  In summary, HRS 2000 program has the following major features:

Theme :  "SCM's response to the militarization and human rights violation in Asia-Pacific"

Participants : Around 15-17 SCM leaders from Asia-Pacific region

Date of Implementation : September 17-23, 2000

Venue : Jakarta, Indonesia

Objectives  : Please see the enclosed 'concept paper'

In view of achieving the expectation for our program, we strongly urge your kind cooperation from the beginning stage.  By now, we would like to ask you to nominate one male and one female SCM'er (not necessarily student) by July 15, 2000.  However, we ask India, Sri-Lanka, Bangladesh and Cambodia SCM to send the nomination form by the end of June 2000, since it will take
sometime to secure visa to Indonesia.  Later on, the regional office will select only one person from each movement considering gender and student balance among participants.   We kindly ask you to go through the concept paper carefully and to select two nominees who can start research on the above mentioned theme regarding your country.  Since we will send some reading materials to the participants and ask some of them to prepare for certain sessions, please keep the deadline of informing the nominees.

Regarding the financial policy, we request the SCM of Aotearoa, Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan for bearing at least 30 % of airfare.  And all the national movements are responsible for airport tax, visa fee and local travel and the 20 USD of registration fee.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely yours,

Shin Seung Min(Rev.)
Regional Secretary
