Conference is now over and was much enjoyed by everyone. Peace2002 National Conference will be held from 1st-5th July, at the gorgeous Old Vicarage in Governor's Bay - about half an hour away from Christchurch Airport. We have organised some interesting speakers, a party at the Wunderbar in Lyttleton on Wednesday night, and the Annual General Meeting of SCMA Inc. Gathering: together 1:00 and 3:00pm 1 July The registration fee is $65, which includes meals and accommodation. No-one is turned away for lack of money, so if this is a problem please contact us. Travel subsidies (potentially to the full amount of travel cost) are available. Please book planes and any other transport soon so it's as cheap as possible! (And to ensure that you get the times and dates you want). Please pay for your ticket yourself and bring the receipt to conference. If this is a problem, again contact Nicola (details above). Conference Highlights· PEACE PART 1: Religious and Political perspectives on peace with a case study on Israel/Palestine. Ron MacIntyre, Political Science Department, University of Canterbury · PEACE PART 2: A participatory workshop to explore peace activism and non-violent strategies. Participants should be able to take away some tangible skills and a campaign/action to work on. Anna Parker, Education Officer and Youth Worker for the Peace Foundation · Fair-trade Coffee Campaign, Kumari Fernando, SCM Otago · Morning worship for 1/2 hour daily led by SCM friendly ministers. Evening worship for 15 minutes for conference participants to facilitate themselves - bring your own worship resources eg poems, icons, prayers, reflections, ideas · Reports from units, on trips and conferences, all building up to the AGM · Party at the Wunderbar in Lyttelton, we have the back room booked so it will be nice and private! Meal out this night too so bring some $ · Gender Caucuses with input from Stuart Bradshaw, SCM Canterbury/Lincoln, and then Sexuality related discussion facilitated by Paddy Noble, SCM Auckland · Senior Friends Event, The Old Stone House, with Beate Fagerli, WSCF Co-Secretary General from Geneva, Switzerland · Lots of good food, chill out time, and flexi-time - all set in the beautiful surroundings of The Old Vicarage, Governors Bay, Banks Peninsula See some of the details of 2001's conference! |
